The aim of Akademija Let is to work in the field of communication skills. Akademija Let was set up in 2022 is an NGO which provides teaching and training services to improve communication skills for children and adults, their parents/carers, teachers and childcare professionals in Slovenia and Europe using gestures and signs. We also provide training for educational professionals, carers and medical professionals in the use of signing and gestures in communication with children and adults with Communication \Intellectual disabilities. We are based in Ljubljana, Slovenia but our members also work closely with the organisations Language in your Hands and Tiny Signers in Leeds, UK.
Akademija LET staff are experienced widely within the communication, teaching and the management and organisation of national and transnational projects.
Mojca Polak Williams is a director of Akademija Let and has a wide experience in early years language and communication field in the UK and the development and use of Social Skills and Communication Competences and has worked as a visiting lecturer at 2 English universities (Leeds Trinity and Leeds Becket University). In 2009 she has been trained in second language teaching in the early years and has joint organisation Language in your hand as a partner. She has been successful in introducing gestures supported language teaching. She also teaches regularly at University of Ljubljana, the special needs department.
She has also used the methods with children and adults with specific needs and communication difficulties. The aim of the NGO is to work in the field of communication skills. Increasingly there has been interest in using the methods for children and adults with Intellectual disabilities.
In the last 5 years she has been teaching early years English Language Teachers and child care professionals from UK and EU to introduce English teaching to children as young as 1.5 years and up to the She has wide experience of managing Erasmus Plus projects and has worked as a external project evaluator for the European Commission. She has also been a lead member of staff in some Erasmus plus projects dealing with early literacy and communication skills (Mutual, Tiny signers, Learn English through signs, Through Gestures and Music into the world of Phonics). The projects have often been recognised by the EU commission for their innovation and excellence. The project Tiny signers has been awarded Language Label for new language teaching method, the project Learn English through signs has been recognise as the best practice project. She has become the director of Academija LET from 2022 and is now bringing her expertise and experience to the new environment.
Phil Williams has a wide range of skills and experience within the field of project development, evaluation and project management within the field of Erasmus Plus programmes and formerly the Leonardo programme. He also acts as a project evaluator within the Erasmus Plus KA 1 programme and managed a mobility programme within the Leonardo programme for UK guidance counsellor for 8 years.
Vid is the creative expert in our team. He is the author of Jenkins and Pixie and their exciting journeys to meet children and countries. He works on graphic design for the activity packs and is responsible for the production of our all our enchanting learning materials.
Leon is a Director of Akademija Let, he is the project manager of educational training events and responsible for marketing. He has years of experience in event planning and working with different teams.
